The Old Daisey Theater was originally a stage and then a movie theater for African Americans. Today the theater has been restored. It is used most of the time for private events, and is not part of the nightclub circuit for Beale Street customers. Which is too bad, for the walls are decorative with historic images of the street and community.

This section of Beale Street then contained the empty storefronts; at least three of the pawn shop marquees were intact at the time. Today this section of Beale contains some of the most popular nightclubs and shops. Among them are, from left to right; Blues City Cafe, and General Store, Club 152, Strange Cargo Gift Ship, and Kings Palace Restaurant.

Lafayettes Corner was on Beale across from Handy Park. Where the bar was located was once the Pantaze Drug Store, once owned by Abe Plough. He founded Plough, Inc. Above the store was a nightclub and rooms operated by Sunbeam Mitchell during the 1950′s and 1960′s. I worked at Lafayette’s Corner briefly in 1986. Today, Wet Willie’s occupies the ground floor.
